How Long will it take to work?
This depends on a lot of factors but generally speaking it's going to happen a lot faster on systems that have recently failed versus those that have been in failure for two or three years.
Septic alive starts to work immediately after you complete the installation. You'll begin to see a noticeable difference in your septic tank within 24 hours. Any septic odors usually disappear within 24-48 hours.
Now it's a question of time; we have to allow time for the bacteria to make their way to your drain field where they will begin the restoration process. Here, some common sense has to prevail. If your system has taken 20 years to fail, it's unlikely to recover overnight! You should begin to see abatement of your symptoms within 30 days and a definite improvement within 90 days. This is not an exact science! We have seen some systems recover in as little as two weeks while others have taken up to 90 days.
How do I know Septic Alive will work for me?
The operation of a septic system is the same wherever you live. The tank type may be different, for example concrete versus plastic; the drain field may be different, for example lateral lines versus a leaching pit and the soil type is likely to vary, for example sandy loam soil versus clay but no matter these differences septic failure is likely due to the soil becoming clogged with bio-mat. Septic Alive was designed to unclog your drain field and restore it to normal operation. If you drain field functioned for a reasonable period of its design life expectancy, the Genie will restore your drain field to functionality.

Soakaways
Soakaways
A septic tank and drainage field/soakaway isn't the best solution for every property. It's important that when considering soakaway construction, you don't construct it too close to existing boundaries, buildings or roads. AA Biotech will able to help you assess your property and, if necessary, recommend suitable alternatives - such as a self-contained sewage treatment plant.

The length of the soakaway drains is determined by the number of bedrooms in the property and the porosity of the soil. New regulations state that for any house up to and including 3 bedrooms, the minimum size sewage system that can be installed is for 5 persons, with one extra person added for each extra bedrooms.
The porosity can only be determined by a percolation test which measures the time it takes for water to drop 1mm in the percolation test hole. From this time, known as a V Value, the length of drain required can be calculated.
Soakaways are required to be a minimum of:
10m from a watercourse or ditch
50m from water abstraction points
15m from any building, and sufficiently distant from any other soakaway, including roof water.
2 metres from a boundary
Other Regulations:
The soakaway or drainfield area should be downslope of groundwater sources
No water supply pipes or underground services should be within the soakaway area
No access roads, driveways or paved areas should be within the soakaway areas. This includes fields with tractors and agricultural vehicular traffic.
The water table or bedrock must not, at any time, be within 1.2 metres of the bottom of the soakaway trench
No rainwater must be allowed to enter the system - you might consider 'Rainwater Harvesting' instead.
